Saturday, September 26, 2009 - River Road Unitarian Adult Choir
Welcome, Adult Singers of River Road Unitarian Church under the direction of Clif Hardin!
We are really looking forward to working with such a wonderful group of singers!
When: Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009
Time: 9:00 am for coffee and bagels
Workshop: 9:30 am to 11:45 am
Where: River Road Unitarian Church
Dress comfortably and bring a filled water bottle and a snack. All the information you need about what we will be covering in these two workshops is on our site, so feel free to look around!
You will be amazed at the difference doing (and not doing) a few simple things can make in your singing. The key is awareness and mindful practice to groove new habits.
Check back after our September 26th workshop to post your questions and make any comments. We will be happy to talk with you!

Thank you, Clif, and all the singers who attended today’s workshop! We had a great time and welcome your comments and questions!
Basically what we started today is nothing less than a recoordination of your body, mental focus and heart. To this end, we have suggested three things to “practice” between now and next week’s workshop.
1. Become aware of how you are moving, sitting, standing, etc. throughout your day, and allow gentle adjustments up and down the length of your spine like we worked on today. Rome wasn’t built in a day!! Just begin to develop your awareness.
2. As you sing, pick one or two concepts we introduced and work them. Feel free to stop singing long enough to reevaluate what you need to do for your instrument. Clif and others who attended the workshop will totally understand what you are doing! It is all to further more expressive singing. Be sure to “claim your space!”
3. Take a look at The Messiah movement “For Unto Us a Child is Born,” to groove some notes.
4. SMILE!!!
5. Stay clear of the elevator until it is fixed….
your workshop at River Road was wonderful!! It was so nice to see other members of the choir ‘get it’ as you explained all the body alignment issues. I could see faces just light up with “yeah, that’s it!!” Our warm-up and singing at the Sunday morning service, following the workshop, was greatly improved.
even tho I’ve studied with Cate for several years, i got tons out of the workshop-the group setting brings so much more to the experience.
